Finally, you got your website just the way you imagined.
Finally, all the links are working.
Finally, you have customers visiting your site…and buying.
Finally, you’re getting compliments on your web page(s).
Great, but now it’s time to update!!
I was talking recently to a friend of mine who had just made the decision to purchase an iPhone.
He was pumped!
Not just that he was going to reward himself with a nice gift of a new cellphone, but more so the fact that he was finally able to make the decision TO buy it! He’s an entrepreneur; you know how it hurts us to spend money on anything, especially ourselves.
So as he was telling (and showing) me some of the crazy cool stuff his new toy can do, the discussion turned to his webpage and some recent changes. Always curious I encouraged him to show me the changes to his site using his new iPhone.
He logged in and “what the ?#$@!@#”
His new site looked like crap! Nothing in the right place, wrong font sizes, videos that didn’t open, and worst of all the new opt-in he was so proud of didn’t work.
His website, i.e. his business was NOT Smartphone, iPhone compatible!
• 60% of iPhone/smartphone users browse the internet at least once per day.
• Three quarters of iPhone/smartphone users do more web surfing than they did with their previous phone.
• Smartphone users are more comfortable with advertising.
• 93% have purchased multiple Apps
• 50% are under the age of 30 yrs old, techie, and own and use at least one credit card.
• Are heavy web and email users
• Mobile internet devices, i.e. iPhones, smart phones, Ipads, etc. make up almost 8% of internet usage.
• Users of mobile internet devices are extremely comfortable with mobile financial transactions!
• 70% of the World’s population has a mobile phone; in the U.S. more kids are likely to own a cellphone than a book.
Does all this sound like a marketplace where your website should be working?
Me too. So you’ll understand the panic! It was a 911 rush to his office and computer.
I won’t bore you with all the excitement and frustration the “fix” involved, but what I learned in the process of helping my buddy make the changes to his web pages I sure want to pass along to each of you.
One of the first and most important things we learned was that of all the smart phone ’platforms’ used by mobile internet devices, iPhone commands ownership of almost 65% of the market!
So if it’s iPhone compatible then you can be pretty confident of having a website that is ‘mobile device’ compatible.
While still in panic mode we each scoured our lists of friends and mentors in internet marketing businesses to find a solution. Several telephone calls, emails, and Skype conversations later, we were able to narrow the list of ‘quality’ DIY services to a couple that were being used to make websites smartphone compatible.
FIRST: Check your website with an iPhone or other smartphone device.
If you need help, here’s what we found:
DudaMobile – One of the newest DIY services available that will convert normal websites into mobile compatible sites as well. Simply log-on, Click, Make My Site Mobile, and BAM! You get dozens of templates, colors, styles, fonts, etc.
Everything, including a “wizard” to walk you through the process and help you copy all your content, links, videos, etc. from your main webpage to the new smartphone screens. Easy to use, very efficient, can create up to 10 pages, and it even gives users a button to bookmark your page? Cost? You’ll love this…$0!
This gives you the Basic package, or you can upgrade for $9 per month for a site with unlimited pages, lots of extras, AND an neat feature that will update your mobile site anytime you make a change to the main site.
FiddleFly – This service cost $588 for a 5 page site, plus a $180 annual fee for maintenance. BUT, wait…if you have the resources and REALLY want to be on the cutting edge of mobile internet device marketing then take some time and research this service.
It’s a little more difficult to navigate because there are so many choices from which to choose. Fantastic templates that are clean, professional and very impressive. Doesn’t yet offer an automatic update of the site.
As always, I make nothing for referring these businesses to you. Just sharing some valuable info to help you stay on top of your business.
As you can see from the statistics above mobile internet marketing is growing at a insane rate. We will see more and more competitors offering similar services to convert our websites to mobile ready sites as time goes by. The competition will lower the prices and improve the quality; when they get here.
Our challenge is to insure that we constantly stay in front of our customers by upgrading our websites with features that make our services available to them as they change devices to view the internet. This is a very challenging task in this industry.
When you make these changes and with what services, will depend upon how much of the market you want to capture!
